Welcome to the Demonstration Database Search!

In the following demonstration of the ILSI Crop Composition Database Search feature you can view an example query to answer the following question: 

A characteristic of plant fatty acids is an increased level of unsaturated fatty acids when compared to animal fatty acids.  This difference in fatty acid composition is responsible for the observation that corn oil is a liquid at room temperature and shortening (e.g. Crisco) is a solid. Compare the levels of 18:0 stearic acid with 18:1 oleic acid and 18:2 linoleic acid for corn grain in Illinois and Iowa in 1998. 
The demonstration consists of the pages you might see when performing an actual search query with the live system.  This demonstration, however, is static, and the selections are permanent.  The navigational buttons will take you to the corresponding next or previous page in the demonstration, and do not perform any actual query or calculations.
