Crop Composition Database

Searching and Displaying

The database is structured so that the user can select attributes of the data sets and data points they want to search on. The database interface will prepare a search query that will select all the data sets or assays indicated by the search criteria. Once the search criteria are selected, the user can select the attributes and analytes they want to display within the data sets returned by the search. The user may or may not choose to display the analytes that they searched on. For example, the user wanted to know the effect of a high concentration of bio-actives on the level of fatty acids in corn grain. The user might search on bio-actives, then specify a Phytic Acid concentration > 0.08% FW. The database will search for data sets, samples or assays that have a Phytic Acid analyte with a concentration of more than 0.08% FW. The user may wish to display all the fatty acids and all the vitamins isolated in the assays containing more than 0.08% FW Phytic Acid. In that case, the user would put a check mark next to each analyte they wish to display in the Select Specific Analytes screen.

Numbers stored in the database are in U.S. format with no thousands separator (i.e. the comma character). A period character is used to separate the integer portion from the fractional portion of numbers.

When narrowing your search criteria by crop type and tissue type, please note that tissues types grain and forage are used in combination with crop type corn. Tissue types forage and seed are used in combination with crop type soybeans. Tissue types acid delinted seed, fuzzy seed and lint are used in combination with crop type cotton. Fuzzy cottonseed is the seed obtained following ginning to remove lint and acid delinted cottonseed is obtained following brief treatment of fuzzy cottonseed with concentrated acid in accordance with commercial procedures.

The interface will proceed through a series of seven screens, each of which performs a discreet function. The user may navigate forward and back through all the screens.
